There are all sorts of ways you can raise money to support St. John's. For instance, you can enter a Moustache contest such as the one Romano Nickerson entered... and won! He raised almost $1,000 for St. John's Shelter!

KITCHEN
If you are over the age of 16, enjoy preparing and serving meals, and can commit a couple of hours, this may be for you. This is a popular activity for individuals and groups of 6 or less. Assist the kitchen for one of the following shifts: Weekday Lunch shift is 10:30am-1pm; Daily Dinner shift is 4:30pm-6:30pm and Sunday Brunch is 10:30am – 1:00pm. We also love groups or individuals than can provide a portion of, or the entire meal. NO CLEAN-UP required!

OFFICE STAFF ASSISTANT
Need individuals age 16 or older to assist office staff. Duties will be to help with filing, copying, answer telephones, locker calls, assist clients with washing clothes, taking clients to warehouse to pick out needed clothes, sometimes assist cook in serving meals. Shifts are typically 3-5 hours each, weekly commitment encouraged.

CHILDREN'S ROOM
Anyone over the age of 16, who enjoys playing with children and is able to assist the staff in tutoring, craft activities, sewing, baking, playing computer games or any other suitable children's activity, is invited to investigate this opportunity.

WORKSHOPS WITH THE RESIDENTS
Share your skills, special interests, and talents with the ladies or the children. Teach crocheting, knitting, dance, karate, art, music, gardening, poetry, yoga, etc. What is your specialty?

FOOD/DONATION TRANSPORT
Assist our customer service team/kitchen staff with the pick up and delivery of donations to the shelter. We would like to create a list of volunteers that we can call up upon to assist staff when the need arises. Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs. We’ll provide the delivery truck, but those with a large SUV or pickup truck are also needed for smaller projects.

WAREHOUSE WORK WITH DONATIONS
Good job for individuals or groups willing to sort donated clothing and arrange in our "clothing closet" for the clients. Volunteers needed T-Th from 1-6pm, Fri-Sun 10am-4pm. Ideal for individuals or groups.

AFTERCARE PROGRAM DELIVERIES
We also need assistance delivering donated furniture and other household items to our After-Care clients. If you have a vehicle that will transport such items and are interested, please contact us.

If you think you might be interested in helping St. John's Shelter Program serve the homeless women and children of Sacramento in one of these ways -- or if you have another idea about where you might be helpful -- please call the Shelter and speak to the Volunteer Coordinator at (916) 453-1482 for more information.

VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION
While not mandatory, please consider joining us for our volunteer orientation, held the 1st & 3rd Saturday of each month at 10am. This one hour orientation includes a tour of the facility and further details on the opportunities described above. Those attending the orientation are welcome to stay at the shelter and begin their volunteer service!
