It's All Us...

A friend and I were at the gym a couple of weeks ago. Gym protocol states that when you have finished with your weights, you need to put them back where they belong. Most people follow that protocol... a few do not... We finished our set of exercises and returned our weights to the rack. I saw a weight in the middle of the floor and asked, "Is this from us?" He replied, "No, it's someone else's." Something became very clear to me in that moment... It's all us. We picked up the weight and put it back where it belongs. Read more

Alumnae Spotlight: Nequai Scott

Nequai Scott is the child of a teen mother. Her parents wed young and divorced when Nequai was a young girl. Throughout her life, she suffered abuse at the hands of men. On October 2, 2009, Nequai finally contacted Women Escaping a Violent Environment (WEAVE). They assisted her in what she considered the greatest escape ever. She began to pick up the pieces of her life. She thought that she had left her abuser and drug usage behind. Then, she timed out of that shelter and was again on the street -- hoping that her husband wouldn't find her and still suffering from an active addiction to drugs. Read more

After losing her home on July 4, 2010, Alexandria went to live with family hoping to get a fresh start… it did not happen. After six weeks, Alexandria was unable to obtain housing and had nowhere to go. Read more about Alexandria's story.
